Couples Counsellor Oxford Thame and Wheatley and Individual Psychotherapist
So pleased you found my web page! You’ve taken a courageous step to seek therapy and to make changes in your life or your relationship. I can help you journey safely up those steps towards your goals.
I’m a fully qualified Couples Counsellor & individual therapist practising in Oxford, Thame and Wheatley areas. My therapy room offers a warm and safe space in which to explore what is happening for you right now. You may discover the resources you have within yourself to build a stronger, healthier life. It will be a place where you are not judged but are valued, listened to and understood. Your confidentiality will be respected.
I was originally trained by the Marriage Guidance organisation ‘Relate’ and have over 15 years experience of working with couples.
More recently I was introduced to Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and was impressed by research that evidences it is proven to have long term benefits in couples relationships. Couples get caught in a pattern of negative conversations and behaviours that may have become established over time and tricky to talk about, so the relationship may become distressed or “stuck”.
As an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist my aim is to support you both to emerge from your current difficulties to a place where you can re-discover mutual needs, gain understanding and build a physically and emotionally stronger relationship that will change your lives forever.
I’m a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotional Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).
My grounding is in psychodynamic counselling which has its roots in Sigmund Freud's theories developed in the 1940’s. His studies suggest that our early experiences of emotions, thoughts and behaviours impact on the present and in particular our relationships with people. For example, people adopt defensive and projective behaviours that do more harm than good.
As an Individual therapist, my aim is to help you work through the barriers that interfere with your emotional and mental well being. Many people find they enjoy this journey of self-awareness and personal growth.
I’m an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) Professional Standards Authority Register and a member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP) and practice within their Code of Ethics.
I hold a full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance
To further assure you of my professional background the qualifications of my training are:-
